Yes, in these days of over indulgence, it is not strange to find both owner and pet slightly overweight. In fact if you were to be observant enough, you will see that the pet dog is a replica of the owner; that is if one has a slim body, the other will also have a slim body. Likewise, when one is over weight, the other will be over weight as well! No surprise here, it is happening all over the world, even in China. So what can we do about it? Both go on a diet?

Here is a better suggestion.

Get yourself a pair of roller skate, or an inline skate and go roller skating, with your dog tethered to you. You can do it at the park or the beach front if one is available, or even at the local skating rink if they allowed you. In this way, you could out run your dog anytime and both of you will get plenty of workout. It is estimated if you were to skate for two hours, you will easily burn away 350 calories. Your dog will probably burn less, but after the work out, both of you can continue to enjoy a hearty meal again, without having to break your conscience. Pet dogs are difficult to keep slim because they need a lot of running space and if you happened to live in an apartment, the poor dog just can’t get enough of exercises. Allowing the pet to roam outside on its own is not a solution as you might not find them coming back to your doors again. If you have kids, bring them along as it will be real fun as well as a healthy dose of exercise for all. Better still, get someone to video tape the fun and post it to Youtube and have your five minutes of fame.

If you have more than one dog, bring all of them for the workout, but then you will have to be extra careful as your tethered friends might cause a big entanglement among themselves. Perhaps tethered one of them and let the other chase after it? Maybe cats should also get a bite of the exercise, or other creatures that you so happen to fancy. All things being said, you will have plenty of fun, exercise and stares if you would just put on those skates and bring along the troop. Maybe that could be a start of a mini circus in town!
